Surah Al Fatihah is the first chapter of the QURAN. Al Fatiha is the summation of the whole Quran. All seven verses are a prayer for the protection, lordship, and grace of Allah. This means that the Surah Al Fatihah is the sum of the entire Quran. Therefore, in our prayers, we recite another Ayah or Surah along with Fatiha. Suratul Fatiha was the first full Surah to be revealed to Muhammad. The opinion of most scholars, including Malik, Ash-Shafii and Ahmad, is that it is mandatory to recite this surah in prayer and that prayer is not valid.
