The Introduction:

The Inna Lillahi Wa Inallah e Raji Oon is the Quranic verse 156 from the 2nd chapter of the Holy Quran, Surah Al Baqarah. These words are recited by the Muslims when their close one passes off or these words are also recited when a believer faces any sort of tragedy. It is also used in risky situations, thus it is mostly used by believers in the situation of condolences

Meaning Of This Phrase:

Inna Lillahi Wa Inallah e Raji Oon In Arabic:

In Arabic it can be quoted down as:

“إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُون”

Inna Lillahi Wa Inallah e Raji Oon English translation is: “We belong to Allah and Him we shall return“. (Al-Baqarah, 156)

Inna Lillahi Wa Inallah e Raji Oon Urdu translation is: بے شک ہم اللہ کیلئے ہیں اور ہمیں اسی کی طرف لوٹنا ہے۔

Importance Of This Dua:

Reciting these words in the situation of grief or tragedy comforts a believer and brings him peace. Also, it is a part of Sunnah to recite these words when someone passes off. It also possesses its great importance in a manner that reminds a Muslim being of Allah and that everyone must return to Allah. Also, this supplication urges a believer to do good deeds and good tasks so that their virtues can be higher and they may preside to Jannah.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inallah e Raji Oon In The Light Of Hadiths:

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also used to recite these verses in the situation of grief and difficulty to calm himself and to assist the help of Allah. Several sayings of Muhammad (SAW) highlights the importance of this dua, they are:

He stated that:

‘Our eyes are filled with tears and hearts with grief, but we say nothing with lips except what pleases Allah, Inna Lillahi Wa Inallah e Raji Oon”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

At another place, the Prophet of Islam stated that:

A Muslim who recites Inna Lillahi Wa Inallah e Raji Oon (إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُون) is never put into distress and Allah compensate him for the endured misery.” -Muslim
